Evergreen, shoots very short, leaves elliptical-ovoid, up to 1.5 cm long, 0.8 cm wide, greenish-gray to blue-gray above. The bluish shoots are very effective. Flowers in groups of 2 to 3, crown open funnel-shaped. 2.5cm wide. When it's blooming, it's covered in countless blue flowers. Yunnan, Lichiang Mountains, at 5000 m altitude, 15 to 40 cm. An undemanding and very hard species to cultivate. One of the best low dwarf rhododendrons, growing very compactly and remaining completely flat. Loose in the shade and then no longer typical. Ideal for rock gardens, as a plant in front of larger evergreens; in groups as ground cover, forming a real carpet. Very pretty in any season. Very attractive in bud buds all winter long. Impeditum means “tangled” and refers to the dense, arching tangle of branches. End of April to beginning of May.
