Evergreen, leaves oblong-lanceolate, 0.5 to 2 cm long, up to 0.5 cm wide, densely scaled on both sides, flowers in groups of 3 to 6, crown funnel-shaped, up to 2.5 cm wide, purple to blue. Yunnan, Lichiang, at 4000 to 4500 m altitude, in open areas, on cliffs, 50 cm. Pretty alpine species, flowering in shades of blue, for rock gardens etc. Very beautiful even in winter with the grey-blue foliage. Winter hardiness good. Scintillans means “sparkling”.
End of April to beginning of May.
