Evergreen. Until recently, this species was called Ledum groenlandicum. However, since there were some very similar rhododendron species and Ledum could also be crossed, the genus was incorporated. This species grows to a maximum of 1m tall. However, it usually remains flatter and is more wide. It inhabits moors and tundra in Greenland, Canada and the northern part of the USA. Leaves are lanceolate, deep dark green and rolled up at the sides, approx. 3cm long and 1cm wide. Dense white felt underneath. Very strong scent when touched. Flowers in terminal umbels, pure white. Prefers a moist location and is completely hardy. Mid-May.
