Evergreen, leaves elongated, 7 to 15 cm long, 3 to 7 cm wide, light green above, thin brown-felted below. Shoot tips and youngest leaves (shoots) white-felted. 10-20 flowers in egg-shaped clusters, creamy white with green spots or pink tinges. Mountains of central and southern Japan, above the tree line, growing 2 to 3 m high. Decorative foliage plant, whose winter hardiness is excellent, as reports from Scandinavia confirm.
